Question for Quietkcook (Back Problems board)

26th June 2005
Quietcook,
You mention the Zofran for the nausea. That's what they gave my daughter for her nausea while in the hospital. It worked for awhile and then the nausea returned. It was too early to give her another dose as they said they could only give it every six hours. Surprisingly they then gave her a dose of Benadryl. We were told that they also use that on their chemo patients for nausea. I was really surprised at that use of Benadryl!

Hi QuietCook,

I'm keeping you busy aren't I.....LOL. I meant to mention I had Phenergan prior to surgery and after and I still threw up terribly. Couldn't even sit on the side of the bed without getting sick. Then they gave me Zofran and that didn't help. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because of it and it kept me from getting up and walking when I should have because of getting so sick. I'm afraid this will happen again with a fusion esp. like we talked about in other posts about having the anterior approach. Thanks for mentioning it again though because I definitely need to discuss this with the Dr. I wish those 2 meds would help me! Once I got home and took just tylenol and ibuprophen, my stomach was better. I just can't tolerate pain meds. How will I cope with a fusion without strong pain meds? Not asking you, just wondering.

Caszyman, I never heard of Benedryl being used for nausea, that's interesting.
Harmony
