I have another question (Cancer: Breast board)

8th January 2004
JC,
My aunt works and has worked through all of this. She is presently undergoing a reccourance of the disease and a second round of chemo. She took off for five weeks for the initial surgery and then went back and she takes her chemo on thursdays becasue she says the sickness is the worst on the second and third days after the chemo. So she is usually able to work on the Friday. She did undergo a second surgery to debulk because she happened to be strong enough to do so, which is apparentlly rare. She only took off for a week that time in August of this year. Your doctor if necessary will fill out all the necessary paperwork for the the Family medical leave act. This will allow you to take care of yourself without worring about work. At least the way that they do with sick days and such. Push your self to do normal things. My aunt said that she noticed that she did better when she forced herself to go to work, or to a craft fair on the weekend. The chemo will make you sick but they have new meds that are wonderful according to my aunt. Zofran cuts the nausea down drastically, but it does cause some bad constipation. (I can vouch for this personally as I have had severe morning sickness and had to use it.) Please take care of yourself and good luck. Heather W
