   Colesteral controll (Diabetes board)

23rd April 2004
Quote from smackliet:
I was just told by my doc my LDL was a little high, so she is starting me on Lovastatin. My number was 113 which i didnt think was too bad. My husbands is in the 200's but he doesn't have to take meds. Is the range stricter for diabetics?
Is it common for diabetics to take colesteral meds? I have heard they arent very safe.

  Yes for diabetes cholesterol levels are different than for other more healthy people. My dr said diabetic cholesterol levels should not go over 100. I was taking liptor for about 2 to 3 yrs, It caused severe muscle pain and I ended up in ER. i then was put on zetia, but it caused severe back pain. Because I walk at least 3 to 4 miles per day and changed my diet, my cholesterol dropped about 100 points. Of course, it is still a little high, but I am working on it. Perhaps, you should read the high cholesterol board, there are posts there with great suggestions for lowering cholesterol without meds. Good luck.
