Bowels and acid Reflux (Acid Reflux board)

One doc told me that IBS and digestive problems often can be the cause of reflux and GERD... I have delayed stomach emptying which my doc prescribed zelnorm for... which is supposed to help and is supposed to be good for IBS... I haven't taken it yet, because I hate taking meds, but I'm working up the nerve to try it.

If you have delayed gastric emptying has your GI ever mentioned gastroparesis? This illness includes GERD as a symptom not a cause and also bowel problems as it affects the vagus nerve which runs all the way through the digestive tract. Metoclopromide and domperidone encourage motility of the stomach. Domp seems to be the most popular with the GI docs. Zelnorm can also be prescribed and also Nexium so give them a go !! The last thing you want is the reflux causing ulcers in the eosphagus !

He wanted me to take Reglan... which I refuse to because of the horror stories and I've already been dealing with anxiety and depression from my symptoms. Unfortunately, domp, which is supposed to be great, isn't approved yet here in the US. I thought about just buying some straight from Canada and giving it a try. I'm on protonix, which also gives me bad side effects, but am going to switch to nexium and also try out the zelnorm. My body just hates foreign meds though, I get loopy from decongestants. I had a gastric emptying scan that was 89 minutes... 90 minutes indicating slow emptying. My GI did mention gastroparesis, but usually really bad cases are much greater, and the fact that mine was technically not "abnormal" (1 minute away from it :) ), makes me think it may be anxiety related or just due to other bowel problems.
