Symptoms at an early age? (Asthma board)

20th April 2006
I quit smoking too. I decided after pneumonia and adult onset asthma I don't need anything else to make it worse.

I never get completely better with medication. I was on oral steroids for over a year it was so severe. No matter how many breathing treatments they gave me my results were never 100%. My doc made me come in every two weeks to keep an eye on me. After about a year of this I'm now under some control. Of course this is because we realized I have sinus disease and had sinus surgery. We found that when my asthma got bad and I went on antibiotics it got better. Plus 500/50 Advair has done wonders. I also use Xopenex in a nebulizer at home. It beats going to ER all the time. I now give myself breathing treatment. One in the moring and one before bedtime. More if needed like when sick.

When I was at the point that nothing would work and I had to take oral steroids I seriously thought I was going to die from not breathing. I know how scary it is! Hang in there. Please PLEASE PLEASE also see an ENT to get a cat scan of your sinuses. I never even knew I had sinus probs. WOW, I was shocked at how severe they were and how much they had to do with my asthma. But it was a welcome relief after worrying over alpha 1.

I still show obstruction in my air way. I always do! But now I can breath. My numbers are higher. I think there is hope. You just have to figure out what triggers yours and find a GOOD doc to work with you and try new things.
