Cybalta Users I Need Your Help Please (Depression board)

5th March 2006
Hi Salty-
I don't know if this is going to help or make things worse, since I had a bad experience with cymbalta. I just saw all of your posts, and feel so bad that you're having such a rough time. I just went off of cymbalta because I couldn't stand it. I was so exhausted, I seriously began thinking that maybe I was actually physically sick. I would wake up at about 10 or 11:00, then try to make myself eat something (since I had zero desire to eat), take another nap later in the day, then go back to bed at 8:30. I was completely lethargic, and had no drive, ambition or desire to do anything. It seemed to do nothing for my depression, either. My husband would come home from work and ask "what did you do today?" and I would start crying because I felt like a loser who literally did nothing all day. I wasn't sure if I had to just wait for the meds to kick into effect, so I went to the dr. She said that 6 weeks was long enough for them to have began working, so she took my dose back down to 30mg and we are weaning me off. When I started wellbutrin and zoloft, it only took about 5-6 days max to notice the difference. Another great side effect, probably from sitting around all day, is that I gained 12 lbs. while on this medication. I loved cymbalta when I first began at 30mg, but soon it became clear that the med wasn't helping me, but actually "numbing" me. I felt nothing, good or bad, until I started getting upset with the fact I was so tired. I'm sorry this post is so long, and I hope it helped in some tiny way. Hang in there, and hopefully your dr will be able to help you some.

Can I ask how long you were on Cymbalta before you started to not feel well. I have been on it 6 months and just this month gained weight and feel NOTHING as far as feelings or motivation.

Hope you are feeling better!

I, too have been on Cymbalta about 6 months and all of a sudden feel like some weight is trying to creep up on me. I've reduced my eating, but feel like the scale is creeping up. I feel bloated sometimes too. Funny you should mention this because in the past couple of weeks I've had some days that were not good and was wondering if I've become adapted to the Cymbalta.

I have an appt next week with my doc and was thinking of asking to try Prozac and Wellbutrin combo next. I've tried many......... I liked Cymbalta as far as A.D. effect, but feel kind of agitated on it sometimes.

I am starting therapy too, so I'm hoping that will help, plus after the winter I will be exercising more and that helps me.

What dose are you on? I m on 20mg.

Salty my problem has been sexual side effects and weight loss. All of them causes me to have no sex drive except for wellbutrin but that doesn't make me feel better. They have got to come up with something that doesn't interfere with the sex. It burns me up really!!
