Just wanted to say good luck with trying to stay off the PPI's. Thought my story may be of interest to you. I was diagnosed with reflux about 4 months ago and put on Nexium (which was very effective for the reflux) but within a month of starting this medication I developed asthma symptoms which resulted in me using a ventolin inhaler. I'm not suggesting that nexium was the cause of this because reflux can cause asthma too but I had the reflux for about a year before starting on PPI's and never experienced Asthma before in my life. I also experienced really bad bouts of dizziness and a strange kind of fuzzy head feeling.
About 4 weeks ago I stopped taking the Nexium for about eight days, during which time the other symptoms went away. After 12 days the reflux came back really badly, so I decided to start back on the Nexium - that same night I had another severe attack of dizziness, palpatations & shaking. With me the side effects of the PPI's are outweighing the benefits. I haven't taken any PPI's for about two weeks now and I'm also trying to use Gaviscon and watching what I eat, I just hope it works!
Best of luck x
