ENALAPRIL and/or ANY OTHER ACE INHIBITOR'S SIDE AFFECTS FOR BP MEDS (High & Low Blood Pressure board)

13th May 2006
Mamzelle,

Many of us found ACE inhibitors intolerable and switched to the far more expensive, and less effective ARB class of anti-hypertensives. For me it was the intolerable cough of enalapril (Vasotec) that did it...6 months of interminable hacking. AT the time it was the only alternative to beta-blockers and diuretics...and the doctors pushed it as if it was THE drug discovery of the century. Back then my only choice was to go back on propranolol and HCTZ.

Since ACE performs many enzymatic functions involving histamines and prostaglandins, it can have all kinds of weird effects in different people.
