I found Valtrex and acyclovir in my boyfriend's house, filled 4/2006.

He claims it is for a virus in his hand from a bone spur, not Herpes.

Is this possible? I have been looking for some kind of facts information to corroborate this explanation, I and can't find any information to justify that this even exists.

Any help or information is much appreciated. Thank you.

Wow- You have every reason to be concerned. I think acyclovir is the generic of Valtrex, and if he says it's for a virus from a bone spur in his hand he is probably not telling you the truth.

The only other virus I saw that Valtrex treats is the cytomegalovirus which is basically the same thing as herpes.

Follow your instincts. If you think he's hiding something, then chances are he is and if he is being dishonest with you, then you need to stop the madness now. A relationship is built on trust and if you can't trust him, he should be out the door- especially if he is/has potentially put you at risk of contracting and STD.

Valtrex is also used to treat Shingles...which my mother had, without knowing...

I was prescribed Valtrex also for Shingles. I am to keep some on hand in case it flairs up again to take at the first sign.

same here---i have taken valtrex( which i prefer) and aciclivor which tore my beely up so bad it was unbearable. the valtrex i find has no side effects and works faster. i had shingles one side of my face around my lips(not cold sores was dx with shingles) and within days had the whole xluster of lymph nodes so swollen right under my chin that looked like an orange. all very painful. since then i have had shingles 1 other time but also had a problem for 10 years of getting cold sores in the same area 8 times a year. was put on valtres for a long time. now i get a cold sore 1-2 times a year but if i don't take the valtrex immedialty i will have several that'll hang for months. the valtrex gets rid of it before i breaks hence much less pain and a faster recovery. nice part about i is if i have stufed simuses it also clears them. i don't want to point the finger at anyone but the bone spur virus has me stumped . i have several in my neck and have never gotten a virus from them. i think you need to tell your honey that your elevator has reached the top floor and he needs to come clean with you. being around young people for years sometimes ,let's say he is being treated for genital herpes he might think he'll lose you if you know but you ave that right. honesty in a relationship if one of the most important things. wishing you the best but you should confront him. :eek:
