   dog seizures (Epilepsy board)

Does anybody know why dogs have seizures? or why mulptle at one time? My vet gave me valium to give him, but ive never seen humans take valium to control seizures. Does anybody think it will work?

Hi Deborah,

Humans are given Valium for seizure control. It's called Diazapan (sp) and given at the on set of a seizure.

yes thanks that does help...... I have Epelispy too but so does my dog poor thing has them bad just trying to see what will help him thanks :)

We had an old dog develope epilepsy, but this was before my son's diagnosis. He did not get an rx for valium. I remember many times staying with him and petting him making sure he came out of it ok.

Valium is pretty common to stop longer seizures. It is usually not used daily for long term because it is so addictive. If used to often it looses effectiveness...
