I had that during the month of December and I actually did break 2 ribs coughing. I didn't know you could do that! The thing that helped me the most was an Advaire inhaler, prescribed by the doctor. The codeine cough medicine did very little and made me horribly tired. The ultracet helped with the pain of the rib fractures. But getting the coughing to stop was the hardest part. I had bronchitis that went into pneumonia..when ribs are that painful you don't want to cough, but coughing is necessary to avoid pneumonia. Call your doctor and ask if an inhaler would help. This particular one is meant for asthma but also works for acute bronchitis.
