Scared occular migrane? HELP anyone else? (Headaches board)

3rd August 2004
[FONT=Comic Sans MS]Hi im 37.5 weeks pregnant and due any day, im 35 years old. I have had a history of migraine headache about 9 years ago they stopped though. They never involved visial disturbances.

Out of the blue 2 days ago I was on the computer when I saw a circular bloob in both eyes moving down the screen. I got away from the PC and got up to use the bathroom, then looked in the mirror and could not see the center of my face it was as if I stared into alight bulb and everything was bright in the center vision, then it grew to where i could not see the TV could not read or focus on anything at all. Again BOTH eyes.

Called my doc at midnight freaking out.. he send me over the the hospital for lab work for toxemia - but all came back fine with no problems or signs of high blood pressure or anything unusual. Sent me home. then it occured the next day, and the next. both lasting for about 30 min each time, both eyes effected. Followed by an aching head in my forhead that tylenol would not help. My eyes now are very sensitive to light - im scared of a tumor or something horrible my doc said it sounded liek classic migraines but I have never encountered visual disturbances in my life. NO black spots - but I could say it freaked me to the point of extreme panic - I was shaking and scared to death.

What do you all think? Anyone else get this where BOTH eyes involved like me? I have had a headache for a day now non stop - not horrible but uncomfortable, im so scared.. I dont know anyone who has had this before

Thank you

Beth and Aardvark - Thank you for your replies

Yes its terrifing. I was just sitting there then bam.. blurry vision that grew to finally a huge blur in both eyes, then a jagged line running across then peripheral was bright and shiney - followed by a panic feeling, then for two days now a non stop hedache that tylenol will not touch.

I read somewhere that these types of headaches can cause permanent visual damage? Ever hear of that? What scared me to is both eyes effected not just one like I have read

My doc said my hormones are a wreck now being pregnnat - im just scared it will happen again and again and again and i'll go blind or something.

I had an MRI about 3 years ago for numbness in my face and leg.. to rule out MS which they did also no brain tumors etc. I also had a complete eye exam maybe 2 years ago that checked out ok. I dont know im just freaked out to death and I want this headaache to go away!

How do you ladies treat your symptoms? Are you on medications? Do they stop the Auras from occuring? What is the difference in an occular migrane and a classic migraine with auras?

Ladies,

Thanks so very much - it makes me feel much better. I got so panic stricken when it hit, I thought I would be blind and not be able to see my new babies face. Good god what a horrible experience.

At any rate I saw my OB and he said he thought migraine also... because I have been plagued with a headache now for 5 days after this episode. My doc gave me tylenol with codene - but im hessitant to take it - I took half one and it made me real loopy. I'll hang onto them for emergency - I should deliver within the next week or he will induce - I hope these go away forever after baby comes!

It makes me feel good that you guys also get both eyes effected. I found one site that said its only one eye always.. so I was like oh my god I have a tumor for sure. I also read somewhere on the cleveland clinic board one of the neurologist said to many can lead to damage, perhaps these were a different type of migraine.

At any rate im not going to let it freak me out. I had my eyes checked by my general practicioner on Friday - he looked with a funduscope and said nothing looked irregular in the backs and no pressure I guess that can indicate tumor etc.

Thanks again for your support - what a tremendous relief I feel reading your posts...

LOL--Three kids and boy-o-boy did the headaches get to be a ***** in the first and last trimester of each preg. I did take tylenol with codine during the last trimester of last pregnacy. Seemed not to hurt anything. I agree with you about using it sparingly. I think in my case it was the estrogen surges that did me in. I am dealing with it again as I go thru menopause.
Best of luck and may you have a fast easy delivery of a health baby!! :) :)
