oh my god. okay if i were to have an allergic reaction to something i was taking, it would show up after the first dose, don't you think?
i went to urgent care saturday to find out i had pneumonia. i went late so i couldn't get my prescriptions filled until sunday. i was prescribed a steroid (methylPREDNIsolone), an antibiotic (clarithromycin) and a cough syrup (tussionex).
sunday night was the first night i was on any meds. i realized my eyes started to burn really bad so i just took my contacts out thinking they were just old or something.
last night was my first day back to work (a day early too) and i put my (new pair of) contacts in and started driving and noticed my eyes started to burn really bad when air or light hit them and it was really hard to keep them open. i figured hey it's dark in work i should be fine.
since i went to work a day early, my husband's parents picked him up in case he needed his fentanyl drip changed (long story- he had a major back surgery) and now is attached to a pump.
i got sent home an hour and a half into my shift because i was hysterical. i have never in my life experienced something so horrendous. as soon as i got home, and i had to have a friend drive me because i couldn't look at anything, i took out my contacts and the pain got a million times worse and the ONLY way they would be bearable was when i was literally holding them open, not moving them, and sitting in the dark. they were so sensitive to everything, and closing them was the worst thing in the world. blinking and trying to sleep were impossible.
i called my dad in a panic because i didn't know what to do but he couldn't get much out of me because all i was doing was screaming and freaking out. so he had my mom call me and somehow she understood what i was saying and said go rinse them out with water, maybe you got something in them.
jesus. if i had gotten something in them, they would not feel like this. i tried anyway but i literally could not keep my eyes open once the water hit them and the pain didn't matter to me then because i was more worried about the fact that i couldn't open my eyes but i was still hysterical.
eyedrops are the devil. visine made my whole right eye swell up and turn bright red and just hurt so much worse.
finally at 4:30 this morning i just fell asleep crying with ice cubes wrapped in a towel over my face.
my mom called and woke me up about an hour ago to see how i was doing. i'm surprised i fell asleep at all. my eyes are still really sore (but not nearly comparable to even like 1/143583409 of what i experienced last night) and they're bright red and swollen and all crusty.
i called like everyone i could think of to take me to the ER and nobody answered their phone because it was the middle of the night. i wasn't about to call 911 because i didn't feel like it was life threatening. but i was at the point where if i went blind i wouldnt care as long as the pain stopped.
i could redo the whole car accident and being sick and all the IVs and cat scans and x rays and needles and this and this and whatever all at the same time. but never in my life would i wish what i experienced last night on anybody no matter how much i hate them.
i'm sorry that was so long. any idea what i should do? call the eye doctor? call the doctor that prescribed me the meds? i have no idea what on earth could have caused that because i have not changed anything as far as my contacts or contact solution...
i just don't know. the antibiotic made me sick sunday night but i've been ok since then. maybe the steroid? i would assume that if it was an allergic reaction it would have occured the first time i took it because my doses get lower as the days go on (6 days, i'm on day 3 now).
i do not have any known drug allergies. thank you if you take the time to read this, and thank you even more if you can help me out.
