BC Pills-Ovulation-Ovarian Cyst (Birth Control board)

16th April 2005
Hi All!

I'm a 24/f looking for some advice regarding BC Pills, Ovulation, & how that relates to functional cysts.

I have been dealing w/ functional cysts for about 5 years now. During that time I have experienced 3-4 actual times when the cyst grew enough to cause me discomfort, thus usually rupturing. Avg size...5 cms.

I have been on Alesse for 2 yrs now, and have experience 2 cysts..each about 12 months apart. My question is: when on birth control pills a woman is not supposed to ovulate, yes? So...taking BC pills usually helps women w/ functional cysts. Obviously I just have not found the right pill yet, but my previous dr said that Alesse was a very good pill and this was just a thing women have to deal with. I have a new DR now and the opportunity to switch pills so I guess I'm looking for advice from women who may have experience a similar situation. Below is a list of pills that I have tried previously for the treatment of my cyst, and they did not work.

Necon
Loestrin
Demulin
Desogen

Prior to having a cyst I tried tried triphasil and ortho tri cyclen...but hated the ortho cause it made me so moody and break out like crazy.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I have a cyst right now, and will be seeing my gyno soon to go over treatment options and I think it's time for a new pill.

Thanks for reading!
Cait :)
