Thanks for all the wonderful help before and, may I ask for a bit more, please? (Diabetes board)

25th October 2007
I really appreciate all the help I was given on my last question regarding my husband being diagnose with type II the other day. I have shown my husband this site and it has helped him a lot, just reading other's responses. Yesterday, after reading through many topics together, he suddenly realized that he was in denial. However, we got his blood work results and there's no denying it anymore. I'm very proud of him so far, he's really worked hard these past few days to start changing his habits and to move out of the state of denial he was in.

Anyway, he has asked me to ask these questions...
He has had symptoms of restless legs syndrome for a while now, about a year and a half, but more than those symptoms, his legs go numb around the hip area now and then. Could this be a symptom from the type 2? Is this something he should be talking to the dr about? If it is a symptom, might it improve once his diabetes is more under control, or is it a permanent thing? He also has some foot numbness now and then, not continuous, just tingling and limited feeling in the arch of his feet.

On another note, now that he's been on his meds for about a week (metformin for the type 2 and tricor for the very high triglycerides), he's having occasional stomach upset. Is this normal when first starting out on the meds? Should we be concerned? He normally has an iron stomach.

Last one...
Anyone know how quickly the meds can start helping? The way we found out about his type 2 was that he was blue from just above the chest up, including his entire face, as well as his fingernails; now the blueness is rapidly decreasing and for the first time in a couple years, he's near-normal coloring now. (slight blue tint, but people aren't commenting on it anymore [strangers used to ask him about it and drs used to see him walk in and usher him to the back immediately, thinking he wasn't breathing well]). We're wondering of the meds can actually start working this quickly as it simply seems awful quick for his color to reverse that much.

Thanks in advance!
