I took the generic version of Retin A (Tretinoin .05%) for about 4 weeks. The first 3 weeks the burning felt like a REALLY bad sunburn, although my face wasn't red. I tried the oil-free lotion like the derm said, but couldn't use it more than 2X per day or I'd break out worse. Since that wasn't enough to soothe the burning I tried aloe vera gel, the stuff for sunburns. It took the edge off the burning, but I still couldn't seem to use the Retin A any less than 3 days apart.
I have very sensitive skin, which probably was most of the reaction. The derm also said the generic tends to be more irritating.
