It's been a long battle against acne... finally found rest (Acne board)

5th September 2004
I am a 28-year-old male, a previous acne sufferer... and now an acne survivor... Please take the time to read this from top to bottom... I will let you know how I overcame the problem, but you first have to understand my background, and the efforts I have exerted to combat acne.

I am asian belonging to the Oriental race... and orientals are reknowned for their smoothness... but that was my major frustration.

My skin lost its original flawlessness at age 15, this was during my senior year in High school... two weeks before the Junior-Senior prom night... yes... it was a nightmare. Worst of all, the lesions were cystic... HUGE... with acne on top of another acne, red and flaring, pumping... was so scared to smile, afraid that a plum zit would pop out and land on the face of the person Im talking to...

Ive gone to 5 dermatologists, spent 8 years of multiple treatments, with excellent results for the first three months, and then gradually decline again despite the religiousness of my compliance to the treatment programs. I was on long-term antibiotic use consisting of Tetra, Doxy, Erythro, and Mino... (and perhaps some other antibiotics I could hardly remember). When I no longer responded to antibiotics, I was placed on steroid therapy (Prednisone program). All these gave good results initially, and gradually regressed to worse breakouts.

Those were just the oral treatments... now the topicals...

I had gone through topical treatments (and ALL of these treatments I carried out religiously for at least a year) -- Vitamin A derivatives (tretinoin, isotretinoin -- gel form, astringent form, cream, etc)... Benzoyl peroxide (from washes, gels, creams, pads, strips, even the well renowned PROACTIV)... Salicylic acids (of varying preps and percentages)... Glycolics (from deep glycolic peels to glycolic microdermabrasion)... Azaleic acids... Rejuvinating creams... Pearl creams... Topical Vitamin ACE's.... etc etc whew
:dizzy:

The net result of this YOYO syndrome from being clear and breaking out --> a scarred face, low self-esteem, a very red and flared up mask while the rest of my body is light complexioned

After all the antibiotics, I felt my liver and my immune system have really been compromised. I got sick most of the time especially during the turn of the seasons (im living in the Midwest USA now). My acne was just out of control, Id even make up excuses to stay home instead of go to work coz my face just made me look like a giant zit with legs and arms :(

A year ago, I decided to stop ALL oral medications and treatment... and tried Proactiv for two weeks and.... WOW... i had AMAZING improvements and I was telling friends about it... take note ---> TWO WEEKS.... and things went smoother two weeks more... on the second month, my skin was clear... and I stuck with this program... until after three months...

Three months after being on Proactiv, breakouts started again... this time a lot worse. The lesions were HORRID... VERY VERY HUGE AND SWOLLEN FROM WITHIN... I persisted with Proactiv for another month, but it worsened to the point I couldnt smile coz I had really huge acne-on-acne around my lip and chin areas...

I decided to stop Proactiv and rest for two weeks from medications, and try other conventional approaches. I tried the well renowned Emu Oil, Elicina cream (snail extracts), Tea Tree Oil, Pearl cream at separate occasions.... and again I showed progress initially but still gravitated towards worse breakouts that the previous.

Then I tried Murad... sheesh... just like Proactiv (but of course its mainly Salicylic acid based instead of Benzoyl peroxide)

Then I thought to myself: diet? allergy? immune system? environment? lack of vitamins?

One day, I went to a neighborhood pharmacy... I was looking around for some acne products. The lady came up to me recognizing me as the attending therapist of a local nursing home and asked me how I was... I told her I was fine and was just looking for some skin stuff to calm my acne. Then she left me to myself after chatting a bit about how the weather was lol.

Frustrated to find the same old products on the shelves, I decided to leave. But something caught my attention... on one of their shelves, there was a product based on glyco nutrients. It was new to me and I decided to ask about it, what it was for, perhaps sumthing that i can recommend to some people who were concerned about their overall health. She explained to me the mechanics and overall view of glyco nutrients. At first I was very skeptic... but after that conversation, and listening to the audio tape she gave me, I told myself: before you recommend anything to anyone, you have to make sure it's gonna be worth trying.

Then I asked her how much it was... she told me a price of $100+ for a month's supply...

I dont have that much money!!!! So i procrastinated.... I had to wait for my next pay check and cancel out my accounts with Proactiv and Murad so I could try out this glyconutrient thing. The glyconutrient thing comes in a package, consisting of 4 bottles of different preparations all orally taken... and btw, they are NOT medications... they are supplements. These supplements contain 8 essential sugars that our body needs to make cell-to-cell communication effective... and this is the mechanics on how the immune system works.

Then I remembered my Physiology subject.. on how important sugars were in cell membrane activity and communication with other extracellular substances. And I told myself: well, you already spent thousands of dollars on worthless attempts to clear your skin, might as well give this your last shot. So I did...

And tell ya what, it's been three weeks now, and my skin is clear... not just superficial clear, but deeply clear. The bumps are calming, the erruptions have settled. I could smile again...

I spent $133ish on these supplements... at first regretingly... but now, I think it was the best investment I made for myself.

Acne, I believe, is not just a problem of the skin... so no matter how much you rub your skin, or apply topical products to it, it will only treat those that are superficial, and only transiently. The skin is an ever evolving organ that grows INSIDE going OUT. The products we apply are placed superficially, with varying modes of delivery into the skin, lotion vs cream vs ointment vs gel vs astringent vs powder vs whatever else...

Oral prescription medications especially antibiotics and hormone-based meds just give us too many damn side effects far worse than acne alone. If you look at most of these antibiotics and hormone-based meds, the long term side effect is immunocompromise. When you reach this point, your defense system has significantly weakened and the bacteria has totally adapted to the meds. Then you end up going for higher intensities of medications.

Apparently, glyco nutrients are the only products ive seen at the moment that concentrated in improving intercellular communication.

I decided to change my skin from WITHIN by improving the nutrients in my blood, improving my defense and immune system, improving the regenerative abilities of my body, and improving overall metabolism.

To those suffering from severe acne, ask yourself this: How often do you clear your colon? (here are simpler terms: how often do you take a dump?) Yes, clearing your colon is very very important in keeping your skin clear. Waste in the colon contains high density undigested polysaccharides that promote Candida yeast proliferation... yes Candida... then you get horrid gigantic acne coz their toxins enter the bloodstream and manifest in the most sensitive skin area --- your face.

The glyconutrient package I used consisted of the following: Vitamin & mineral support (and if you read the label on the bottle, it contains more vitamins and minerals compared to the leading multivitamin preparations in the market today), an intestinal health support (with added beneficial flora such as Lactobacilli and L. acidophilus, and lotsa fiber), an antioxidant cell protection formula for immune support, and an optimal endocrine health supplement.

When I saw these 4 bottles, and read through them, then I realized that this would logically address my acne --> intestinal health, OPTIMAL vitamins and minerals, cellular protection and immune support, and endocrine support.

At this stage, yes I am excited... :D but I will not recommend it to anyone yet until I get to the third month. I will be back in the forums and let you know how things are turning out, whether this product is a sham or a blessing. I wouldnt want anyone to spend on such a pricey product and end up with dissatisfaction.

Please feel free to get in touch with me, or post under this thread if you have any questions :)

Thank you for reading :)
