Saw the new PCP yesterday.... (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

24th February 2004
So I went over with her some of the symptoms that I noticed with the ADD. she did agree that she felt it was an accurate diagnosis, but was reluctant to giveme a stimulant med due to my fibro and those meds. so she gave me samples of Strattera to try.

I took my first one this morning, and um...the first few hours were interesting. As I said in another post, I take the painkiller Tramadol for my fibromyalgia. one of the things i particularly liked about the Tramadol is that it helps wake me up...makes me feel more alert than I normally would. in the afternoon, it prevents me from taking a nap. if i have stuff to do, it makes me feel alot less sluggish and lazy.
Well, the combo of that and the strattera was like a rocket boost!! fopr the first few hours here i've felt more hyper...but mostly mentally i think. i noticed that it was harder to think of the correct word occasionally...but i didn't feel the need to pace, like i can sometimes get during a hyper phase (which doesn't last more than a few hours)

can i expect that craziness to wear off? my head just feels.....funny. i can't describe it any better. also, the dry mouth is awful.

when can i expect to start to see results, to see if it is helping my ADD? a few weeks? longer? shorter?

Odd. I don't feel hyper today. I feel no different than when I normally just take my Tramadol alone, which as I said, wakes me up to begin with.

Quote from Redhead23:
"Hyper" reactions to Strattera can (but by no means must) indicate that Bipolar was misdiagnosed as AD/HD, as many Bipolar people have a "Manic" reaction to this medication.
