Knots in lower legs (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

3rd July 2003
Maybe somebody can help me out here. I am a 17 year old female. Last year I was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White(WPW) Syndrome. Last September I went and had ablation. But it failed, so now I am on medication for the WPW. I am currently taking Toprol and Flecainide. Last December, I started getting these hard knots in my lower legs. They swell up really big sometimes and the swelling usually goes down after a couple of weeks, but the knots never completely go away. They are very tender. I went to the ER in March because of WPW complications. I told the doctor there about the knots, but she refused to even look at them and said they were shin splints. I have always heard that shin splints were painful when you walk. These are not painful, but they are very tender. When I went to the cardiologist in April, I asked him about the knots and he said just to keep an eye on them. Any ideas anyone??? Could this be related to the medication that I am taking? A physicians assistant suggested phlebitis. Anybody?
