Hello-
I am a 25 year old female who has had very few health problems until this May. I was driving in my boyfriend's car when something I believe got under my contact lense in my left eye (I wasn't worried about it because this has happened before) I promptly took my lenses out but the redness continued (and I am impatient and made it worse by putting my lenses in)
Eventually I went to the emergency room because my eye was blood red and felt like I had a corneal scratch. The ER put me on oxuflux and referred me to another opthamologist who kept me on the oxuflox and told me I could wear my lenses again,
However, upon putting my lenses in, they were uncomfortable and caused a red circle around the lenses as well as light sensitivity. I have been to five different opthamologists since this event, and was put on tobradex, fluurometholone which is a steroid drop, and given a dry eye test (even though I have had no problems with this before, and my eyes don't really feel dry!) and of course, Bion tears.
I have not worn my contacts for about three months and everytime I put them in I get this red ring around my eye. I have been told I do not have GPC but that some papillaries under my lid are inflammed.
My problem is my eye is red around my eyeball even when my contacts are not in. I still have light sensitivity. One doctor told me I would never wear contacts again, but the majority are confused as to why I can't. They all say they see nothing wrong with my eye!
Most recently, I was put on an allergy nasal spray and allegra because I started getting really wicked headaches. I have never had headaches before and they think this is sinus related.
Has anyone gone through anything like this? I am reluctant to see more doctors because most either brush me off after an eye exam shows nothing serious, or tell me to give up on contacts (which makes me really sad since I've worn them for years with little trouble!) Now they just chalk it up to allergies and give me more meds that don't do anything. I have even been through humiliating tests for sexually transmitted diseases for my eye problems even though I practice safe sex!!!! No-one will listen to me.
I'd appreciate any advice since this problem is causing me a lot of stress and I feel like my body is falling apart! I'm not sure who I should see, an ear, nose, and throat for an MRI, or a young optician who would be willing to listen to my eye problems and realize that not being able to wear lenses can be debilitating and deserves attention!
thanks
