1. Mom is 62
2. Smoked all her life – 40+ years
3. She had a heart attack in 2000, was dx w/ mild CHF and COPD at that time – uses O2 @ night and that’s been the extent of her treatment, except for RX theophylline. She is supposed to be using inhalers (Seravent or one of the inhaled cortisones), but doesn’t
4. It was her PCO2 at 65%, and PO2 @ 35%, the tech told me those numbers s/b reversed
5. Don’t know what her CBC workup was
She’s now been in the hosp 1 week, Dr says he really feels it’s her meds causing her confusion and daytime drowsiness. They are sposed to do a sleep study to rule in/out sleep apnea but that hasn’t happened yet. He took her off all narcotics and is giving her Ultram [img]http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif[/img] for her chronic pain. Fortunately for Mom he also put her on Paxil and Pamelor, so she’s been sleeping through most of the w/d. Although I know narcotics can cause resp depression and need to be used cautiously in respiratory depressed patients, I know my mom, and while she’s “quirky” as hell, this past week’s behavior ain’t her meds.
