   fighting perioral dermititis (Acne board)

1st February 2008
hi, I have had perioral dermititis for 6 years now,it was not to bad before but then i had my last two children and it got worse. So i was using cortizone cream on my little flare ups, and it would take it away for awhile, big mistake i decided to go off of it and my whole face broke out i looked horrible people would stare at me like i had herpies.I cryed alot.It spread between my eye brows on eye lid and everywhere around my mouth and nose.I tried metro gel first i ended up gatting big water blisters and it got even worse, so we tryed Erythromycin gel same thing i had a bad reaction so i had to go back on Prednisone for another 5 days to counteract the creams.Freaking out!!!!Fed up and getting depressed.I can not go on Tetracycline which did not help me in the passed.I am still breastfeeding my 10 month old so i am limited to what i can use.I don't know what i can use anymore but i heard about specto jel but i am scared to put anything on my face but can not live with this much longer, any suggestions would be wonderful.

I have suffered with perioral dermatitis around my mouth and chin area for several months but am finally seeing relief in one week of starting a new routine. My sister had me purchase an over the counter rosacea treatment called Prosacea, which is a topical gel containing sulphur. Every night and morning, I put this on, let it dry, then on top of that I apply another gel called Neutrogena rapid clear acne eliminating spot gel. My face is really dry where I have applied these gels, but I am finally waking up without the persistant white pustules or new red bumps. The only other thing I've been doing, and this might sound far out if you're not familiar with it, is taking 3 tsps. daily of pure virgin coconut oil found in health food stores. It has properties similar to that of antibiotics. I started this when I read that people are usually put on some kind of antibiotic therapy such as Tetracycline for this condition. I decided to try the coconut oil instead as it does not kill of the 'good bacteria' in the intestines like prescriptive antibiotics. This is what is working for me and may not work for you but I wanted to post for anyone who is at their wits end with this condition and would just like to try it. I have no idea if it's the topical treatment or the coconut oil or a combination of both that is helping. Hope this helps someone and take care.
