H Pylori triple therapy (Acid Reflux board)

28th February 2007
I was also diagnosed with the H Pylori virus, and was put on 2 antibiotics, but only for 7 days. Everything I have read on this says triple therapy and for about 14 days. I asked my GI doctor why not 14 days, and he said 7 days would work -- well, I don't think it did. But it is true to treat that infection requires triple therapy -- one is the PPI I believe with the 2 antibiotics. I'm allergic to almost everything, so he put me on Tetracycline and Cipro. But again, I don't think he had me on it long enough.

I had posted a note here on 28 February -- I was on Tetracycline and Cipro for 7 days for H Pylori. I was retested about 3 weeks ago. I still had H Pylori. Doctor put me on 2 other different medications for 10 days. I am allergic to so many antibiotics I cannot take the Prevpac or anything with penicillin, amoxicillin, erythyromycin, etc. My 10 days are now up on different medications. I was put on 2 medications I never heard of (Alinia and Xifaxan, along with Prevacid)-- I have my doubts that the H Pylori is going to be cleared up. Have to be retested again in 4-6 weeks. Sometimes I think if it's not cleared up this time, I'm just not going to worry about it, because I'm so afraid of taking the antibiotics I'm now taking, and ending up allergic to them too. And everything I read on the internet says antibiotics should be taken for weeks and weeks (maybe months). When I asked my GI doctor, he says that now these things can be cleared up in 7-10 days. Well, it didn't work the first time.....
