   Sties (General Health board)

25th September 2006
Styes can be a sign of Blepharitus (inflammation of eyelids) and is caused by demodex mites in the sebaceous glands of the eyelids. This can lead to madarosa (falling lashes). An ophthalmologist can assess this for you. Sometimes tetracycline is prescribed for it. Blepharitus is also related to what causes rosacea.
