I have had GA for 20 years now. There is really nothing that "cures" it. Mine totally disappeared during all three of my pregnancies, but promptly returned after I delivered. My thyroid is fine and I dont have diabetes. Sometimes a local cortizone injection into the site itself will help, but not always. I have had intramuscular cortizone in the past that helped, but now I have atrophy (muscle wasting) from one of my injections. It leaves a "dent" where the injection was given. At this time, I am being treated by a new dermatologist who has put me on Tetracycline 3 times a day, non flushing Niacin 3 times a day, and a topical ointment called Protopic twice a day. I have been taking these for 8 weeks now (not always faithfully) and I have not seen any results yet. They have tried "freezing" some of my spots, but I haven't noticed anything except a scar from it. It is a frustrating condition. At one point I was anemic and my doctor told me to take Iron supplements. I dont know if it was related or not, but the spots went away. But now when I try taking the iron, it doesn't help.
