I know because I noticed my son tics at the age of 5. He also has ADD. He was on medications for the ADD which made the tics even more pronounced because they were stimulants. So I had to give him Clonodine as well (tenex) which controlled the tics. He is now 14 and basically tic free. Over time they got better. He is also off all meds, even though he still has ADD.
