can thyroid disorder cause skin problems? (Thyroid Disorders board)

9th March 2008
I have been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and have been on tapazole for some time. I have noticed that my skin on some parts of my body has taken on slightly atrophied appearance and am wondering if in part it could be because of the meds or the disorder itself. I should also say that I am 58 (COULD be the reason for the skin I guess) AND that I find it difficult to believe that I am actually HYPERthyroid as I am overweight. I have tried to talk to my doctor about this, but he keeps saying the same thing, that my numbers are right where they should be. I am thinking of changing doctors, but endocronologists are pretty hard to find it seems. I should also say that I don't feel any different since I started the medication. Should I be feeling differently? Thanks for any help.
