Non-Stop Cough - Please Help (Asthma board)

10th June 2007
For two weeks now, I have had a cough that won't stop. It is a dry, hacking cough that doesn't produce anything. I was diagnosed with cough variant asthma about 8 years ago. At that time, I took Serevent and Flovent for several months to get it under control. I haven't had a recurrence in all this time until two weeks ago, but I have taken allergy medication all this time.

X-rays of my sinuses and lungs are clear. I used albuterol a LOT the first week along with Advair 100/50, Rhinocort and Allegra-D; when that regimen didn't get it under control, my Advair was bumped to 250/50. I don't use albuterol as much now because my peak flow is better - it's about 450, and I am only to use it when I have flow of 400 or less.

I have to see my allergist again in 3 days, but I wonder how I'll make it until then! I only have maybe a minute at most between coughs. It truly is almost non-stop, except when I'm sleeping - I mostly don't cough overnight.

I am desperate! If you have any ideas or suggestions, I would really appreciate hearing them.

THANK YOU!
