   Advair advice (Asthma board)

21st August 2006
I have been on advair for about 3-4 years different strengths but have been on 250/50 majority of the time. I am trying to decide if I want to stay on it and need a little input on this issue to bring it up to the doc. I personally do not feel my asthma is under good control. I usually wake up about 3-4 times a week at night due to my asthma. I use to be on pulmicort and serevent and that combo seemed to work well. I was able to live a normal life and actully get out and do the things I love like swimming, running, and other exercises. When I first switched meds to advair I had thrust every month even with rinsing my mouth and brushing my teeth. Now I am always tired I usually cant exercise without taking a nebulizor treatment before and after the workout and still using a rescue med during the work out (when i get the energy to actually do this). I just wonder how well those powder meds really work or if the combo is not working well for me. My pulmicort seemed to do great but even when the changed me over to the powder serevent it didnt seem to work as well. The doc even had me come in and show how I take the med and it was fine. The last doc I had would not switch me, and I had been seeing him for years. I have a new one, but I am kind of afraid to bring this up cuz they sure seem to think advair is the best thing ever. Any ideas on how to go about this???

I'm curious..If the Pulmicort & Serevent combination was working well and enabling you to lead a normal life, why on earth would you switch to something else?

A note to wash & dry.....I tried several different strengths of Advair rescently on my dr. advice. I also felt my breathing was not really good.,But worse were the side effects! Like it took real effort to do anything! also joint aches and bouts of depression. I had enough, quit the advair, still take Serevent and Azmacort. Like a weight has lifted, and breathing much better. Some people just can't take the steroid thats in there. Good luck.....HUM
