   Serevent? (Asthma board)

18th July 2006
[QUOTE=Buffalo Gal]I'm just getting over a sinus infection which raised havoc with my asthma. The heat and humidity didn't help either. I'm on a short burst of prednisone, but the DR. said if my peak flow drops again, he may add Serevent to my Pulmicort and Albuterol. I've read such scary things about Serevent. (DR. says there are scary things about every medicine). Anybody take Serevent? Any thoughts to offer? Oh, I'm still taking Lyprinol. DR. says it's a good thing, a natural anti-inflammatory, and there should be no harm in taking it.

My husband has been taking Serevent, Pulmicort and Albuterol and has for years. That Combo has kept his asthma in control. He has had no side effects.

I have been on Serevent for many years. Its basically a preventative inhaler. They now have powder inhaler forms of it. I have just been on the aerosel version twice a day for years. I ahve also been taking Flovent and my Albuterol as needed. I personally have never had any negative side effects to it.

Serevent is a prevenative inhailer that works differently than say Flovent. I'm not sure if Asthmacort is a prevenative or a rescue...I used it but a long time ago. Have they ever talked about dropping the Asthmacort and added advair which is a combination of serevent and flowent in one medication.

I took this drug for years alongside singulair, but recently experienced chest pains and a racing heart, so I stopped taking the serevent right then. I have since switched to Flovent, and have not had any more problems.

While I was side effect free, I did like the serevent and singulair. I think it is fine for most people.

I ahve been on Serevent for about 1 year now. Also on Singulair. No problems as yet, no weight gain (in fact I am losing weight).
