   Just diagnosed (Asthma board)

I know having asthma is not fun (I have been diagnosed with it for about 15 years but I think I've had it all my life) but it sounds like you have found a good doctor. Also you should be commended for quitting smoking because as I'm sure you know for obvious reasons that can only increase your asthma symptoms! I am also on Advair, Singulair and albruterol. The advair and singulir are prevenatives and will not help during an attack but do need to be taken all the time. Advair has 2 medications in it (flovent & serevent) and help with the tightinging & restriction of both the airways and the lining of the lungs themselves. The sigulair helps with the controlling of allergy simptoms which can trigger asthma. The albuterol only needs to be taken during an attack. After you have been on the prevenative medications for a while you should not need the albuterol as much. I have fought back and forth for years not wanting to take the prevenatives but I do know now that it is something I need to do because the disease is not going to go away!

take care & good luck!
Amanda
