Hi everyone-

Today is day 7 for me, and so far I haven't seen any real improvement as far as pain. My throat looks weird, and I can't tell what's normal and what's not normal. The first few days after the surgery it was completely black/dark red...gradually turned completley white, and now there are some spots that are dark red again. Does this mean the scabs are getting ready to fall off?

Also, my biggest problem with pain right now is coming from my actual throat- like the area where an Adam's Apple would be if I were a man. I don't know what this means but the pain from the area around the tonsils is gone..now this throat pain is the worst. Could it be from straining my voice? I sound like I am partially deaf or something because I have problems talking still..hoping this will go away.

I got a prescription for liquid oxycodone today, since I ran out of the liquid Roxicet. Are these medicines similar? I haven't taken the oxycodone yet, but I'm hoping it works as well as the Roxicet. That stuff is like a miracle drug, lol.

megkath, I hope you're feeling ok! I am finishing up day 11 now, I was doing amazing in the beginning, I stopped taking the roxicet after day 3 and was just taking tylenol. I had my follow up appt. on day 7, which just so happened to be when my pain started getting worse. My doctor said it is all the nerves waking up again after surgery and that it should only last a couple more days and then should start to feel much better, but if I needed to, it was fine to switch back to the strong pain meds. To answer your question Roxicet = a combination of oxycodone and tylenol. The oxycodone they prescribed should be taking good care of your pain. Yes, its a strong pain med, but it is essentially what you have been taking all along. As long as you are having pain and need it, its fine to take it. I am still taking it on day 11. I try to take tylenol during the day and then take the roxicet at night to help sleep and usually first thing in the morning to take the edge off. I'm watching the throat closely, I havent seen any real improvement in a couple days, so I'm starting to feel a little down, but I'm hopeful. Most of the scabs are gone, their coming off was a lot easier than I thought it would be, aside from the pain. For the most part I didn't even notice them coming off. I can't really tell from how you describe your throat, since mine was pretty much completely white right from the start, but what my doctor said on day 7, was that it was really important to keep eating soft food for at least 10 days to make sure you don't cause bleeding by ripping off any big scabs with hard food. I have heard people say different things about that, but I thought it was best to listen to my doc! Take care, you're getting there! :wave:
