tonsil issues (Ear, Nose & Throat board)

27th March 2007
[QUOTE=BoroBoyMTSU79;2885484]Well its day 1 after the surgery and i must say that I have a pretty bad sore throat. My uvula is swollen so big that it hangs down the back of my throat, while my tongue is so swollen I cant see the back of my mouth. Last night I couldnt sleep for more than an hour at a time without waking up to drink water or go get rid of some water. So far my diet has consisted of bottle water, gaterade, jello, popsicles, and ice cream. And I did have a little of mashed potatoes and gravy for dinner, which I must say was tasty but not worth the effort to eat. So the doctor gave me liquid Lortab that has 8 refills until Sept. I sure hope Im not going to need to take all that!!! :dizzy: Also has anyone else had the problem where their pain medication actually causes a severe burning sensation in there throat? I almost hate to take the medicine because of the taste and burning feeling. Didnt know if this was something I should talk to my doctor about or not.

~David

You are dead on with all your comments. I had Roxicet liquid, and it tasted nasty and burned. I changed to lortab in pills later (around 1 week after) and split them and that was better for me. Couldn't have done pills right away. Keep PUSHING liquids. I ate no more than a couple of oz most times because it was so much work/pain. KEEP your chin up. After 2 weeks it's hard to remember how awful those first days were! Lisa
