   tonsillectomy and pain meds (Ear, Nose & Throat board)

1st March 2007
I hope your surgery went well today.

The liquid pain relieve is the best way to go. The two that I was given last year were Lortab Elixir (hydrocone) and Roxicet (Oxycodone). The Roxicet was a knockout remedy for sleep and the Lortab Elixir allowed me to function during the day.

hi--I ended up in the ER today with chest pain. I have pnuemonia; not uncommon after surgery so I was put on strong antibiotic. Also the ENT on duty was shocked that i was on day three and unable to take pain meds and couln't believe i had been given vicodin pills. So I got some liquid roxicet and then a dose of steroid in my IV. I went from being completely unable to speak this AM to now talking and being understood. I also got a cat scan which showed my lungs looked clear of any tumors(that was encouraging). As far as the arnica goes I began taking arnica montana 6c, andstaphysagria 6c 3 days before surgery and I also used arnica ointment liberally on my neck area. Maybe this is why I was able to tolerate the pain without the pain meds. I will continue with the arnica and staphysagria for several weeks

Thank you for your thoughts. I have had a terrible time with nausea and being able to take pain meds. Two things that are helping me right now---a tablespoon of honey (sounds gross but works; also healing for the wound site) and flat ginger ale is great I thought it would sting but it doesn't and it definately helped me to be able to get some fluids down. Today is day five worst pain yet but I am hopeful that I will get the pain meds down okay with honey and gingerale. Also for anyone wondering about swallowing pills It has not been a problem I did switch to liquid roxicet but my antibiotics are good sized pills that go down okay. Main problem-Sleep. I feel like I am choking when I start to fall asleep. I think I've only gotten 6 hours altogether. Best night sleep was after steroid dose which is wearing off now.

[QUOTE=SeanyBoy;2926466]Hello all,

Do any of you know what is routinely prescribed in the UK or the generic names of the drugs mentioned above?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

The generic names are oxycodone and hydrocodone APAP. Roxicet (oxycodone) and Lortab Elixir (hydrocodone APAP) are the two liquid meds that I was prescribed.

Hope this helps.
