I need advise from those who have had addictions to vicodin please! (Addiction & Recovery board)

17th August 2004
FWIW, I've been on Vicodon for the last 4 years, both the 5/500's as well as Vi-Q-Tuss, it's syrup form. Admittedly, I use them legally for chronic pain post cancer, but that doesn't make it any less acceptable or fun. I've tried to quit a few times and mostly it hasn't been that tough. Some diarrhea and the need to sleep during the day when I get depressed. But such reletively minor symptoms are rather typical for the pain patient. And the pain is what drove me back to it, every time. I lost most of my lower jaw to cancer, so you might get some idea of what I'm like. The pain might be tolerable if I didn't have to eat or talk, but since that isn't possible, I'm rather stuck. Where I'm at now is much better than I was 5 years ago, when I was taking Morphine, then changed to Oxycontin twice daily followed by Roxicet 3x daily.

I honestly couldn't get stoned on this stuff if I tried I've been on it for so long and even with respect to the pain I augment it with Neurontin.

Addicted? Absolutely, and from what I can tell I'll be on this stuff for life. And am sick to death of taking pills. Luck to you all. -Rod-
