Oh, Adult ADD exists all right. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 54, I'm 57 now and looking back I probably had it all along because it explains so much about my life, but my shrink says I was high functioning. It's just since middle age, my coping mechanisms don't cope so well any more, so it's more bothersome now.
I pick at my lips and my fingers are chewed, skinned, whatever down to the first joint.
I said in another post that every form of Ritalin that I have been prescribed (which is what works for me....the Adderall and the rest of that stuff just makes me more depressed with a strong feeling of what's the point of anything with a side order of major impending doom, go figure) elevates my already high blood pressure, so might I suggest a consult with your doctor about Diazepam.........Valium, that's it, I couldn't think of the term in the other post.
I find that while not as good as the Ritalin, the Diazepam (5 mg once a day) works to the point that I can deal with a lot pressure without freaking out anxiety-wise and I have a little tiny bit of actual fignernail growth and it doesn't shoot up my blood pressure.
And in general, I find that I am very agitated unless my covers on my bed are completely straight, I have to prevent myself from checking and re-checking to see if I really locked that door and I absolutely have to have the gas pump stop on a whole dollar amount. I am an endless source of amusement to my children, needless to say. But I can say that I do feel less agitated about those things with the Diazepam.
