ritalin (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

16th January 2008
I would seek alternatives to drugs in order to help your child. If you research on the internet there are different diets and therapies to help with alleged ADHD. A 5 year old child should not be given Ritalin, Adderall, or any other behavior modification med. Just my opinion, of course.

[QUOTE=elvasoto;3394142]the doctor tried my child on adderall 10 mg it seems to work for a while, then wears off in a cuple of hours, now he has been prescribed ritalin 20 mg, i am worried, is this too many mg's for my child, i guess when i heard the name ritalin i got scared because i've heard alot of bad things of ritalin. my child is 5 yrs old, is there anyone out there that has their child on the same dosage? someone that can help?

5 seems a bit young for ADHD medications, but 20mg is not too high of a dose for elementary-aged kids based on some of the research and reading I have done. Some kids take way more than that...
