Help for Lines above Lip (Beauty & Cosmetics board)

4th April 2003
There is a few I have used....You would have to get a script for either from you DR....I have used Renova which is great but it is made for someone who has sensitive skin. And there is Retin A which is the same pretty much as Renova but alot stronger (improves blood supply to the skin, which increases the turnover of dead skin cells)....I think it was a couple of weeks when I started to see results, but either is somewhat expensive...the last tube I got of Retin A was about $65 but it lasted me awhile(I bet it has gone up by now)...it only takes alittle....But with either one it does increase your skin sensitivity to the sun...so if you are out in the sun alot, this wouldn't be the product I would use(or at least while you are using it). And you would want to wear a high factor sun screen with a very good moisturizer. Oh also you don't see very much peeling with the renova but with the retin A you see or I seen more, that is the way it works...it is getting rid of all the yrs and yrs of nasty skin....which I was happy about that....but the peeling does subside after awhile...after you get the results you want you can stop using it...or just apply when needed....well hope that helps.....good luck

Yes, smoking is a definite cause of these lines. The constant puckering of the lips causes the skin to wrinkle there. Also, nicotine is another ingerdient that is very bad for your skin (not to mention your lungs and every other part of your body). Smokers usually have terribly aged-looking and leathery skin with a yellowish cast to it. I have seen that numerous times. One thing that may help is Retin-A (Renova). I also heard that the new Lancome cream Resolution D-Contraxol works very well on these lines. However, none of the remedies will work very well, if at all, IF you continue doing the thing that is causing the lines to appear in the first place.

I apologize for assuming that you were a smoker. I have no idea why I assumed that in the first place. In any case, if the lines are quite deep then Renova (Retin-A) may help somewhat, the cream I mentioned probably will do no good and what will work the best is either laser resurfacing or a skin peel performed at a dermatologist's office. Topical solutions (creams, lotion, etc.,) are only effective on faint lines.
