At what age does acne go away??!! (Acne board)

7th June 2004
Hello Dave

Actually acne isn't from grease, its a bacterial infectin of the sebaceous glands (where the oil is produced) the area becomes inflamed and you get lumps, bumps, pimples and cysts.

Some people get acne once in childhood and never again. But I just recently got acne again and I'm only thirty. I'm on antibiotics and i'm almost clear (though it took 4 months to get to where I am now)

The best thing you can do is see a dermatologist. Forgot aobut a doctor, they don't know what the hell they're talking about. Mine told me that I had an "allergy" to a product I was using - I knew she was wrong because I'd read a lot about identifying skin conditions and allergies didn't look like my face. The second the dermatologist saw me, she knew it was acne and put me on antibiotics.

I've used Retin A before, its horrible. Use Renova instead, its MUCH more gentle. If event taht is too harsh, use it every other night or a few days a week.

Have you ever tried Alpha hydroxy acid? I find it really helps me. I use a cheap brand from the drugstore called Alpha Hydrox, AHA enhanced cream. Its about 8 bucks and I've used it on and off for about 9 years whenever my skin needs help. Its really great. Its only about 8 bucks so its worth giving it a try.
