we don't know what's wrong with him (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

28th July 2006
His skin is just sensitive. Like if I rub his arm, chest, leg... he says it bothers him. His skin is hypersensitive. I think it's mainly light touches. He has symptoms of Restless leg syndrome and it helps his legs if they are massaged.
I can't remember if I wrote this already but he is always clearing his throat after he eats, especially if he eats and lays down. Those symtoms he has had for years.

Of course the new worrisome symtoms are the dizziness and weakness. Which came suddenly about 2 months ago and still haven't went away. The dizziness doesn't go away and gets worse sometimes. Weakness is mainly in hands, but also in his whole body. (His job of 7 years is very physical, so he notices it alot.)

Plus his memory isn't what it use to be. That's new (started a few months ago) He is very smart but lately he seems like he doesn't get some things. I guess he is worried and that distracts him? But he says he feels like he's in a fog and that he feels out of it. I use to think that it was because of his night job and lack of sleep, but he's been on medical leave for roughly 3 weeks while they try to figure this out and he's not any better. (He kept putting off seeing the doctor hoping it would go away on it's own.)

He also had numbness in his face, pretty bad once, then a couple times after that to a lesser degree. When we told the neuro that she kind of dismissed it, saying well that would be a brain symptom and his MRI is clear. I was impressed with her overall, but that one thing kind of bothered me.

He didn't sleep well (till they put him on remeron about 2 weeks ago) and didn't eat well either. He would sleep about 4 hours a day and of course none at night cause he works nights.

Just want to gripe a bit here.... His dad won't give up on the idea that it's because he spends hours on the computer and that it's because of his eyes. He wears glasses, which are about 4 years old, and probably need to be replaced. It's driving me crazy! The doctor told us that would not cause his symtoms.... but could pure exaustion? Then again, he has been sleeping better lately and no improvement.

His resting heart beat has been 104 the last few times it was being checked. And one of the times he was nearly asleep! So I know it's not because he was nervous or upset. His blood pressure seems to be running on the low side also. He is a small but very fit guy. Since he is in good physical shape and only 30 I don't know why his heart is running so fast. The internal medicine doctor really didn't say anything about it.

He wasn't on any medicine when his symptoms first started. About 3 weeks ago they put him on Remeron, it's an anti-depressent w/side effects of sleeping and eating more. Then he started to get uncharacteritically angry and have outbursts. So today is his first day off of that. They don't want him on it anymore, and besides all that, it can lower bloodpressure which can make dizziness worse, (we aren't seeing the doctor that prescribed it anymore.) But we have two good doctors that are working together to help us. (the neuro and internal medicine doctor)

I did insist on the free t3 & t4 but it didn't get me anywhere. :(
However if he doesn't get better soon I will revisit the subject.

Also, at the internal medicine doctor, right on the door it says "patient only allowed" but I went in anyway cause I didn't see if at first. No one told me to leave.

I'll have to look for the tick tests. I told my s/o what I learned about tick diseases which was that sometimes the tick tests are wrong, and that it will show up once you start treating for it. The internal medicine doctor felt that it was very unlikely because of these reasons:
He never goes outside, except to walk to the car.
Lyme isn't where we live (although the eliclidas one is alot!) *spelling :(

I know that both of those can be argued because we do have an indoor/outdoor cat and because it doesn't mean lyme doesn't exist here.
(but maybe it lessens the chances)

Supposevely he is going to get better in like 2 weeks. I am doubtful but she says that almost all viruses would have run their course by that time. We will see. (did I mention that on the latest blood tests his liver enzymes were slightly elevated) she didn't seem to concerned but she thought it was due to alchohol (but he doesn't drink or do any drugs or take otc medicines) we told her that so she tested for some other stuff which we don't have results for yet. Will let you know any news. Thank you, thank you, thank you! For reading & posting everyone :)

Just an FYI? i just looked up remeron and one of the side effects is abnormal liver function tests.so this could be the problem.he really should have a repeat set of hepatic labs done in a couple of weeks to see whats up then, they may all be back to normal.you just need to make sure that it was indeed the med and not something else going on.but the follow up labs really are important to have done.thought you might want to know this if you didn't know already.FB

THANK YOU so much feelbad! That was so nice of you to look that up for me. :)

Also now that you mention it, he had been on prozac years ago for a short time and acted bad on that also. By bad I mean he was mean with outbursts.
I forgot about that when they prescribed remeron :( Plus I didn't know they were in the same class.

The problem is he didn't keep the same doctor. But NOW I know to keep copies of everything (& if he switches or whatever we will have the information) But also, I think he is going to stick with the neuro and internal medicine doctor. That will be nice! This recent sickness really needs to be figured out and you can't do that if you either a) don't see a doctor or b) see different ones & get everything mixed up.

Turns out he was hit by a baseball bat in the head when he was 7 and it damaged his eye and the doctors had to fix it.... Shows how much I know. :( there's even a scar there and I think he's told me the story before but I didn't remember that either. (I have memory problems, which is why I write everything down, & now make copies and save stuff)

As far as I know he hasn't had any past spine surgery or injury, but then I could be wrong....

NEXT post is results! Thanks everyone. :)
