Miracle Drug for GERD (with proviso) (Acid Reflux board)

12th March 2005
I wanted to let you all know about my "miracle" experience with Remeron. This is an antidepressant medication, but a few doctors know about its use for stomach acid problems.

Remeron actually INcreases stomach acid, which you may be surprised to learn might actually be your problem. For years I was told I had too much stomach acid, and was put on nexxium, prilosec, etc., which did not work. When I started taking Remeron for depression, the GERD I had had for 10 years disappeared within days.

Here is the proviso: Remeron can greatly increase your appetite, especially for sweets - so you can very easily gain significant weight. I don't know how long you might be able to tolerate it because of the weight gain, but it is certainly worth a try for a short time or in extreme cases. You might try using it occasionally when the GERD gets intolerable. I am not the only person I have talked to who experienced this "GERD miracle" from Remeron.

Try to find a doctor who is aware of Remeron for GERD or who is willing to try it, and be careful about the appetite issue. Good luck!!
