   Lowering Prednisone (Arthritis board)

7th May 2006
Hi Thesedays,

I am on Prednisone. My rheumatologist put me on 2 pills in the morning. Then I gained 20 lbs. and still hurt. So after several months of being on Prednisone, and Relafen among other meds, she put me on Methotrexate. She is also reducing my Prednisone - slowly, I hope.

These are 5 mg. pills, and my rheumy has lowered me to 2 one day and 1 the next and then 2 and then 1. I imagine, I then, will go to 1 and 1 . For a wile after that. This first lowering is for 2 mo.

Can anyone tell me if you ever get used to being weaned off of Prednisone? I can really feel it!!! It is like I need something else, in the 1 less pills, place!!! It hurts worse and in many different places. But mainly in my arms, wrists and hands.

My Methotrexate has been slowly upped over the last 2 mo. First I took 4 pills per week, 2.5 mg. Then 5 pills per week, for another month. And now for 2 mo. I am taking 6 pills per week, for 2 months.

I cannot tell that it is helping me yet. Please let me know what kind of experience and feelings yall have had with these meds. And is 6 pills, 2.5 mg. per week of Methotrexate, still not as high as you can go. Or does this med just take a long time to work???

And what is yall experience with the Prednisone. How long does it take to totally get off of it and used to not taking it???

Please help, if you can.

Thanks in advance.
