Sneezy,
Thanks for your reply. I've noticed that you've replied to my questions/comments in the past, noting similar issues (I had a very positive experience with prednisone as well). I am skeptical of the TMK/Atypical Migrane/CFS theories. Is there anything you find helpful beyond allergy shots and irrigation? I've been on allergy shots for 7 months and finding that I can't reach maintenance b/c the reactions are so bad. I actually get a reaction at the location of the shot, days after I get the shot.
Is it your belief that the symptoms we're describing are the result of allergic mucosa (which is abundant), inflammation (which is minial), or infection (which is evident through postnasal drip only)? If I knew what was causing it, I'd feel much better.
I must say that I feel the worst when the post nasal drip is yellow. Otherwise, it's not so bad. That being said, nothing seems to work to control the yellow PND... antibiotics are useless. I've found that Entex (a decongestant) and irrigation work somewhat. Afrin works the best, but it's limited use means its limited relief.
The allergist (a very prominent dr. in the field) doesn't believe that it's allergic rhinitis b/c I've taken steroids and he seems to think that steroids would have resolved the allergic congestion. Moreover, I live in Virginia and there are very few environmental allergins that I'm allergic to this time of year. That being said, he's thrown out there that it may be nonallergic rhinitis with eosinophilia syndrome (NARES). Apparently, I had very high eosinophilia - discovered through a culture. If the two week regimine of Pulmicort (a steroid) irrigation doesn't work, which will definiatively demonstrate whether it is NARES, he's sending me to a neurologist.
