Stimulant Use for ADD and Acid Reflux (ADD - Attention Deficit Disorder board)

8th March 2006
Pleae help! I was successfully treated with Ritalin for 10 years, before developing a very bad, permanent case of acid reflux. I have been on acid reflux medications (nexium, 80 mg per day) for 2 years. But I can no longer take Ritalin, as it creates enormous irritation in my stomach - I cough and sputter, my stomach swells up, and I can feel the esophageal spinchter muscle go flacid.

My work is really suffering because I can't find an alternative ADD treatment.
I have tried Provigil, and that causes the same stomach problems. I was given a prescription for Strattera, but haven't tried it yet, as I'm worried about negative side effects from having to take it every day. And yes, I take fish oil every day and have a very good, well balanced diet, but can't control the ADD.

I keep the Rilalin bottle handy for emergencies, but even if I take it just 1x per month, my stomach goes crazy.

Any suggestions? Is there anything I can take in conjunction with the Ritalin? Maybe Malox?
