LPR and halitosis, any relation? (Acid Reflux board)

21st July 2008
All,

I had an EGD done on Friday and I went to get my results today. My doctor now has a new theory after reviewing my PH study with the endoscopy--he thinks its achalasia. I am so confused. He told m to stop the Protonix, which I had done already a few days ago because he no longer thinks I have reflux at all. Instead he seems to want to zero in on the difficulty swallowing portion instead. Funny thing is he went over my manometry and PH tests from 2006 and it showed I was having problems swallowing and of course this was my chief complaint, but they gave me Protonix and I took it. I've been taking it two years but I didn't get any better. Achalasia is opposite to acid reflux in that the LES doesn't open properly the way it should. I am unsure how I feel at this point because each time I think I got it figured out and that Ill be better I am not. One symptom of Achalasia is bad breath so at least that explains it. Also, the difficulty swallowing and regurgitation makes since as well but how could one confuse that with LPR. Guys, I am so cufused, I just can't understand how I could go from sucessful, happy person to sick, miserable, with this horrible exbarrassing odor from my throat.
