Allergic Esophogitis (Open to All Health Related Topics board)

Thank you so much ZuZu for all of the information. I really appreciate it. I have searched a lot of places and came up empty handed. My son has been treated for what they also thought was acid reflux. All the meds never helped either. He had many EDG's, barium swallow tests, ph studies, etc. and sometimes he needed stretching of the esophogus, but most times he was wide open. It has been a long journey trying to figure out what is happening and the GI now thinks it may be allergic esophogitis. My son is now on Protonix and Flovent inhaler. If this doesn't work/improve his condition by Tuesday, we will have to have another EDG to see what's happening. If all goes well he will be scheduled for the EDG a month from now to see if the new meds are helping. Anything more you can tell me about this would be greatly appreciated. How do you start the process of finding out what the allergic culprit could be? Do I see a special doctor for that? How are you coping with this?

Thank you

Wow...This place is GREAT!...Thank you ZuZu, Quincy and Berzoids for all of the information!!! To answer a few questions, Yes, my son seeing a Pediatric Gastroenterologist. My son is now 15 and started seeing him about 2 years ago when this problem first started. At first the doctor thought it was acid reflux and had him on Nexium 2 Xs a day. That hasn't helped. He also had 2 - 24 hour PH studies with momopatry (sp.?) They also came back normal. Plus the series of other tests I had mentioned in the earlier post. He is now on the Protonix and Flovent as I mentioned as a course of treatment. He was told to use the Flovent Inhaler in a different way than asthmatics do...he should swallow the medication instead of inhaling it, they want it to go into his esophogus and not his lungs. I thank all of you for your wealth of information. It has eased me some to understand this. I will keep you posted on his outcome. I should know by Tuesday if this is helping!
Thanks again.
