Darvocet has never, ever provided relief for me--not even in the early days of my use of opiate-type pain relievers!
After I had my wisdom teeth removed, Darvocet was what the Dentist prescribed me--after a great deal of debate. When I took the Rx into the pharmacy, the pharmacist informed me that I should not mix the propoxyphene (the main stuff in the Darvocet) with the Tegretol (carbamazepine--had to look that one up!). After much discussion, I was Rx'd Lortab 10's by the Dentist. The hydrocodone was significantly more helpful than any form of Darvocet would have been--and I wasn't that deep into my pain management treatment. That happened about 10 years ago. I had an appointment with my PM Physician a few days later, and he didn't seem very impressed with the Dentist's choice of pain relief.
Just from my own observations from prior experiences with Darvocet, I hardly think that Darvocet-N (100 mg propoxyphene napsylate, 650 mg acetaminophen) is comparable to Lortab 10's. Maybe it was just my own physiology or something! Darvocet is a Schedule IV, while Lortab 10 is a Schedule III. I usually figure that a Schedule III pain reliever is more potent on most people than a pain reliever that is a Schedule IV.
Short version: Darvocet is not that potent for most people--especially if they have used opiate-type pain relievers for an extended period. Not that [SIZE="1"]short, huh?
