Hi Twells - Darvocet-N contains Propoxyphene napsylate and Acetaminophen, which is Tylenol. Other forms of "Darvon" can contain aspirin or aspirin and caffeine, etc. Hope this helps. KathyMac

KathyMac 22nd August 2006 As KathyMac stated, the variations of "Darvon"-type compounds can alter the blood-thinning potential of these propoxyphene products. And, the point to which Twells alludes, we should be careful about pain products that interfere with our blood thinners!
Both of these members should be commended for reminding us of this possibilty! Many of us are on blood thinners of various sorts and should be very careful about our consumption of pain products that contain acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), aspirin, or naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn, Anaprox). As well, I was warned by my Pharmacist that I shouldn't take Darvocet since I take Tegretol--something I never even heard of! My Dentist Rx'd Darvocet for me after I had my wisdom teeth extracted. The Pharmacist phoned the Dentist for a substitution, and the Dentist changed the Rx to Lortab 5. I'll do my best by refraining from making foul comments about a Dentist Rx'ing something as mild (translated "weak") as Darvocet for a full four-tooth extraction!! Nonetheless, let's be careful about all of the products included in our prescription pain medicines as both Twells and KathyMac suggest. Sincerely, Jon (Conductor) |
