Quote from dagmarharris:What is the difference between Allegra and Claritin? I mean the ingredients and how it works....
Today I went to the gym. I was going to just work out, quitely, for 30 minutes. My friend unexpectedly showed up and joined me on the bike next to me. I notice when I talk, I get the cough worse. We finished the work out and then the cough got worse. I went with my friend to the bathroom and what started as a tickle cough...got very bad. It is so emabarassing. I just sat on the toilet and sucked on a cough drop. The cough finally stopped and I got a very bad headache from coughing (and the end of my hormonal cycle).
This coughing happened while talking on the phone last week, too.
I will go to work tomorrow and am worried this "cough fit" will happen....
any suggestions????? This is causing me anticipatory anxiety...which I am prone to, anyway.
Anxiety is a whole different arena, I know. But this is playing into mine.

My doctor prescribed claritin for me a couple of years ago for an allergic reaction hives that I got on my skin,, it helped a lot with that. The allegra helps my coughing and headaches, something the claritin didn't do,,,,, also the claritin made me feel very tired. Everyones reactions are different of course, but that has been my experience. My husband and son have both tried zyrtec and didn't like it at all, both got dizzy etc. on it. Allegra has been just the ticket for us,,,, to bad that when claritin went over the counter our insurance decided to charge us twice the deductible on the allegra,,,(shouldn't that be against a law of some sort?????!!!)
If I get around ANY lint my cough gets VERY bad,,,, even trying on sweaters at the mall set me off for a couple of days. My husaband has had to reroute the clothes dryer exhaust to get it away further from the back door, 'cause doing the laundry is a real cough inducer for me,,,, ,,,,,,maybe if you try to track what you do (eat, breathe etc) just before your cough starts?? Possibly a location where you have been etc.... maybe you are allergic to say... mold and you are going into a moldy location before it starts.
I too had problems with panic, it started when I had myocarditis from a virus,,,, I spent time in prayer and the panic is for the most part just a bad memory. Have you considered that you may be menopausal? or at least PERImenopausal? My allergies and panic problems and headaches started when my estrogen started dropping when I was 34,,,,, premarin has helped.
I DO recommend you get a dr. to do an x-ray (chest) I put off getting that done for 6-8 months after a dry cough started and now am just finding that I have a mass in a lung,,,,wish I had found out sooner....... I have never smoked, so shouldn't have been a worry for me,,,, but there it is.
Best wishes,,,,cheri
