Thanks for the info about the AIM protein!! It seems like a potential breakthrough in the treatment of CHD. I hope that something beneficial comes from it, and not too far down the road! I wish that it were here today - my mother is scheduled for by-pass surgery tomorrow morning, and I'm a nervous wreck....

Pfizer must believe in it if they bid over $1Billion to buy the company that produces the synthetic version used in the trials.

A plaque-volume reduction of 4% in only 5 weeks is absolutely astounding!!! Blows away the plaque reduction of anything else I've read about...

I believe the author in the TIMES article was referring to a Cleveland Clinic trial called REVERSAL, which pitted Pravastatin (40mg) against Atarvostatin (80mg) - and measured change in plaque volume after 18 months. The Pravachol group experienced a 2.7% increase in plaque volume, the Lipitor group experienced a 0.4% reduction in plaque volume.

To me this is a miniscule reduction for such a huge dose of Lipitor. I question the risk/benefit equation at this doseage. I think the AIM protein is a much more valuable avenue for the pharmaceuticals to pursue...
